The short answer
A gutter repair has no single price, because the job could be a re-sealed joint or a rehung run. What moves the figure is the fault itself, how many metres are affected and how the work is reached. For context, Which? (Nov 2025) gives a typical UK range of £75 to £350, ex VAT, for clearing gutters, and a survey fixes the written price for the repair.
What sets the price of a repair
Three things decide what a gutter repair costs: the fault, the amount of gutter involved and the way in. A weeping joint is the smallest job. A fitter cleans the union, replaces the seal or the whole union bracket, and refits the gutter, which takes little time and few materials.
A larger repair is a section that has split, cracked or corroded, or a run that has dropped. Then the fitter cuts out the damaged length, supplies a matching piece and joins it with new unions. If the brackets have failed, they are replaced too, and the run is reset to a gentle fall towards the outlet. The more metres involved, the more time and parts the work takes, and a run that has been repaired before may have mixed parts that need matching.
The gutter material changes the picture. Plastic lengths are light and easy to replace in part. Cast iron and concrete are heavy and specialist, and a section may need two people and special fixings. Our guide to cast iron guttering explains why repairs there take longer.
Finally, the boards behind count. A gutter hung from rotten fascia cannot be repaired until the board is sound.
Access can outweigh the repair itself
On a bungalow, a ladder is enough for most gutter work. Above the ground floor, the work generally needs a mobile tower or a full frame, and that can weigh heavily in the price of a small repair. A fix that takes an hour once the fitter is in position may need much longer to set up and take down safely, which is why a small job at height is not always a small price.
For that reason a short run of repair at the front of a house, where a tower can stand, costs differently from the same repair above a conservatory roof, a porch or a drive with a steep slope. Obstacles such as bay windows, flat-roofed extensions and sloping ground all change what equipment is needed.
A frame standing on the footway or carriageway has to be licensed by the highway authority responsible for that road. The licence takes time and carries a fee set by that authority, so ask who applies for it and when it is expected.
Combining a gutter repair with other roofline work on the same visit shares the access, which is often the sensible time to do both.
Typical UK ranges for context
A gutter repair varies too much for one national figure, but a few related jobs give a sense of scale. Which? (Nov 2025) reports £75 to £350, ex VAT, as the typical UK range for a full gutter clear-out, front and back. MyJobQuote (Oct 2026) puts gutter replacement at around £1,000 to £1,600, which shows the gap between a repair and a full renewal.
For the boards behind, MyJobQuote (Sep 2026) puts capping over a three-bed semi's fascia and soffit boards at around £800. Concrete gutter replacement is higher: MyJobQuote's older page (Jan 2026) shows an average of £2,400. These are national guides, not Affinity prices, and they describe different jobs from a single repair.
Never assume that a repair figure from one source applies to your house. A tiny repair on a bungalow and the same repair at height on an awkward corner are priced differently, and the comparison only makes sense when each quote states whether VAT and scaffold are in the price.
Our guide to gutter replacement cost sets out the larger job in more detail.
Repair or replace, and one total price
Repairing is sensible when the gutter is mostly sound and the fault is local: a leaking joint, a cracked bracket or a single damaged length. Replacement makes more sense when the run is brittle, cracked in many places, mismatched, or has been patched several times already. A string of repairs can cost more over time than one renewal.
The way to decide is a survey. From a tower or ladder we look along the whole run, photograph each fault and the boards behind them, and tell you which sections need work. You see the same pictures we do, which makes the decision shared rather than something you have to take on trust.
The quote is one total price, in writing, which covers the repair and whatever access it needs. Check that every quote you hold says whether VAT and scaffold are included.
For leaks specifically, the answer on a leaking gutter joint explains the usual fix, and the guttering, soffits and fascias page covers the wider service.
